Observatorio de Prospectiva Tecnológica Industrial

The Foundation Observatory for Technological and Industrial Foresight (OPTI) falls under the protectorate of the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism. OPTI works as network with a small central infrastructure and the collaboration of eight Technological Centres linked with the industrial branches aim of the OPTI studies. Each Centre has own technological capability and direct relations with the industries, mainly SME, and contributes with its specific knowledge to develop the OPTI activities.

OPTI identifies emerging technologies through its Technology Foresight and Technology Watch activities, and therefore it is considered to give a privileged information service to the Spanish society. During its six years of life, OPTI Foundation has carried out more than forty foresight studies, covering a wide spectrum of technologies, critical for the development of our industry. Its commitment to innovation and development leads OPTI to seek into new productive sectors year after year. OPTI has carried out Spain’s First Programme in Technology Foresight. Consequently, it has become an international source of information about the Spanish industry, OPTI offers advice services to both public and private organisations.

OPTI’s main objectives may be summarised as follows:

  • To generate basic information and knowledge on new trends. To foresight on the future impact and influence of technology on the industry, the employment, and the competitiveness.
  • To support the strategic decision-making in companies as well as in the public sector on technological aspects important to the industrial development. In other words, offering information about the evolutional impact of technology. This, in order to increase the company or institution competitiveness, and enhance their presence in the market.
