Liguria Region
Liguria is situated in the south-western part of Northern Italy and borders with France to the west .It has1.592.309 inhabitants.
It is a maritime region favoured by nature and it finds in the activity of the ports and in that of tourism the most important economical factors.
Genoa's harbour is the biggest in Italy and, alternatively by the years, the most important in the whole Mediterranean area organising together with important trades also important cruising movements.
The majority of the enterprises are under 50 employees.
The most important Ligurian industries are engineering, food, petrochemicals and ship-building. Nowadays many factories have turned to other so called tertiary sectors like commerce, communications, banking, insurance and other various types of services. Tourism is so now becoming more and more important as in the position to have a great wealth of attractions and infrastructures to satisfy every type of tourist demand and all the towns down to the small villages are committed to give the best and various services all around the region. A small but important part has agriculture with some famous vegetables and fruits. In some areas flower’s growing has developed to a very sophisticated business so to satisfy demand all over the world all year round.

Innovation and research are the priorities of the new Government of the Region. They are considered instruments for the development and valorisation of the territory and for the production of knowledge.
